Dissecting Chemotherapy 10: No Chemo for Mom’s Breast Cancer – Wisdom of a Son

Patient is a 55-year-old female. She had a lump in her right breast and underwent a lumpectomy in June 2011. Unfortunately the job was not done well. The resected margins were not clean. Patient had to undergo another surgery and this time the whole breast had to be removed. The histopathology report confirmed an infiltrating ductal carcinoma, grade 2 with high grade DCIS (more than 25%) with 1/9 lymph nodes shows metastasis. The tumour is ER +, PR + and C-erb-B2: 2+.

After the surgery, the patient was asked to undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The son persuaded the mother not to go for further medical treatments. Patient came to us and was prescribed Capsule A, Breast M and C-Tea.

On 18 October 2011, I had the opportunity to talk with the patient and her son.

You were asked to do chemo? Patient: Yes, but I didn’t want to do it.

Why? P: (Looking towards her son) He did not want me to do it.

Ha, ha, he did not want to do it, not you didn’t want to do it.

How old are you now? P: Fifty-five years old.

Son: I did not have much confidence (in what they did on her). She went for an operation and after that the doctor asked her to do chemo. Before the surgery, I asked the doctor, “What is the reason my mother has breast cancer?” The doctor replied, “No reason. If it happens, it happens.” I don’t think this was a logical enough answer because any illness must have a cause. This doctor is an expert – so famous yet that was the answer he gave me – if the cancer is going to strike you, it strikes you.

Anyway, after my mother had the mastectomy, we were referred to an oncologist. She was told to undergo six cycles of chemo and fifteen sessions of radiotherapy. The doctor said, “You go ahead and do these treatments first. Later I shall inform you what else to do.” I asked the doctor, “She had just undergone an operation, can you confirm if there are still cancer cells in her?” The reply was, “No need to ask. You must go ahead and do these treatments.”  I asked him back, “If there are no more cancer cells in her, why must my mother do chemo?” The doctor replied, “Patients overseas do the treatments. We must follow what they do. So your mother has to do the same treatments.” (Son shaking his head) I don’t  think we have to follow what others do. It is illogical. As doctors I don’t think they should say such thing – other people do, so we must also follow. After all, all of us are different.

I again asked the doctor, “ If she were to do three cycles only and she is cured – do we still have to continue to do another three?” The answer was, “No, no, you must complete the entire six cycles. We must follow the protocol.”

According to my mind, this is not the right thing to do. I again asked the doctor, “After the chemo and radiation, do we still have to do other treatments.” The doctor answered, “Yes, yes, but let us not discuss that step yet.” I countered the doctor, “Does she need  to go on receiving the treatment, one after another until  she nearly reach the point when she is about to get into the coffin before the treatment ends?”

With such answers, I told my mother the way she is going does not  seem right.

My Friend Died After Chemo for His Liver Cancer

I had a friend – my business partner. He had abdominal pains. A checkup showed liver tumour.  The doctor asked him to go for an operation to remove it. He went for a second opinion. Another doctor told him surgery would be very risky. He might not survive. He should not operate.  My friend went to seek the opinion of a third doctor.  This one said he should undergo chemotherapy. My friend asked the doctor, “But doctor you only see the scan. You did not do a biopsy.” The doctor replied, ”If I do the biopsy, I might break the liver capsule.”

The family finally decided to undergo chemotherapy but they did not have any clue as to what chemo is. After the chemo, my friend’s abdomen bloated up. He could not eat or drink. He died within a few months. I saw with my own eyes what had happened to my friend. So I told my mother, “You don’t know what chemo is and you don’t know about the side effects that the doctor told us. Let us find another path. “

Chemotherapy and Radiation May Not Cure

They asked you to go for chemo and radiation – did you ask if these will cure your mother? Son: No cure. They said the cancer can come back again. They cannot guarantee anything.

Yes, right – no one can give you any guarantee. But I am a bit baffled. Just because others (Westerners) do these, we also must follow – we must do the same thing.

Parents Value Doctor’s Opinion More Than Their Son’s

My father and mother are not well educated. They only depend on the doctors to tell them what to do. As their son, they would not listen to my opinion. They believe the doctors more. There are things I can understand,  but old folks do not understand even if you tell them. Sometimes relatives come – they give their opinions too. That complicates things even more. Uncle, auntie, neighbours come and put pressure on us. Until now, some people still come to me and asked me to send my mother for chemo. They said that so and so had chemo and was cured. But everyone of us is not the same.

I have read – there were people who died after chemo and there were people who were cure with chemo. I have read all these and told my parents about these. They responded, “Why go and read all these.” They do not  have confidence in themselves.

Oh, they don’t want to learn for themselves? They only want to hear “good things” and only think that they can win? Son: Because they only believe in what the doctors tell them. Actually most old folks behave like this.

It is All About Money First

I checked all the information I got to see if they are true or false. It all boils down to money first. Like in my friend’s case, it is all about money when they discussed his case.

CA Care Website

You visited our website and watched the videos of patients telling their stories in Youtube. Can I ask you one question  –  do you believe what they said?  Son: At least there is something in there – the information in there are better than what the doctor provided. These are real stories of people. I also want to find out if the information is true or false.

I put it to you – how sure are you that the videos are not fakes – made up stories with actors posed as patients? Someone wrote me an e-mail asking how much I paid each patient to talk or act like that? Son: That had never crossed my mind at all. No, no, I don’t have that kind of feeling at all. After all, doctors are also telling the same thing – there is no guarantee about anything. You want to do chemo or anything – there is no guarantee but money must come first. But for the side effects – that not their responsibility.

Advice to Patient

(Turning to the patient) What does your heart say Auntie? P: I never think about this at all.

Your friends or relatives may ask you to go for chemo – are you confused? P: No (shaking her head).

No one can help you except you yourself. So please take care of yourself. This is your illness. We can only guide you as what to do but you must be responsible for yourself. What I tell you may be different from what your doctors tell you. It is up to you to believe me or not. I advise you to take care of your diet. They tell you, you can eat anything you like. In addition I advise you to exercise, take the herbs and be happy – don’t think so much.

Breast Cancer: Herbs and e-Therapy Restored Her Wellbeing After 106 Times of Radiation Treatments Part 6: Four Days of Healing at CA Care

Acknowledgment: Permission to use this video without having to hide her identity is granted by the patient.

This is a bitter-sweet story of Le, a 37-year-old female from Indonesia. She came to us on 14 October 2011 after having been diagnosed with breast cancer that had probably spread to her lungs. She had undergone 106 radiation treatments besides taking a variety of supplements.  She presented with aches and pains throughout her body, especially the joints. Bodily movements were difficult.  She could not sleep well and she had coughs.

After four days here, how do you feel now? Le: Healthier. I feel better.

When you came here last Friday (four days ago), compared to to-day, do you feel you are better? Le: Yes. I can walk faster now. I have more energy. It is like I was before I had cancer. When I came here I was still tired and lethargic. But yesterday I could walk from the apartment to the market. My husband took the wrong turn and we missed the market. We had to walk up and down everywhere. But I was alright. I had no problem walking. And I also walked fast. Before I had to drag my feet when walking and my back was hunched.

What about your sleep? Le: Before I came here, I had to wake up five times a night to urinate. I coughed. So my sleep was not good and disturbed. I often had dreams of my loved ones who had died. They came to invite me to “go home”. After I took the herbs and did the e-Therapy I could sleep well. I had no more dreams.

In terms of bodily movements, are you more agile now? I realized the first day you were here, you had difficulty moving your hands, etc. Le: I am back to being a normal person now. I can do the following (demonstrate all the actions):

  1. Raise my arms up high and straight up.
  2. Put my hands behind my heads to tie my hair. Before when I had long hair my daughter had to tie my hair for me.
  3. I can hold the broom and sweep the floor. I can swing my arms.
  4. I can make my bed and fold the blanket.
  5. I can bend down and touch the floor with my hands.
  6. I can bend my wrists.
  7. I can undress and wear the bra by myself.
  8. I can fold my legs and cut my toe nails.
  9. I can climb in bed right away without any having to slide in slowly.
  10. I can fold my arms and use my little finger to clean my ear.
  11. I can clap my hands – no pain.
  12. I can use my hand to smack the mosquito – no pain. Before it was painful even to touch the skin.
  13. I can snap my fingers and make this clicking sound.
  14. I can grasp something and bend my fingers.
  15. When I breathe deeply, there is no more tightness in my chest.
  16. This morning I walked faster than my husband.

Now you seem to have regained your movements and quality of life. Are you happy? Le: Yes. This is what I have been hoping for. When I was unable to walk I told my pastor that I wanted to die. I have lost all hope. This is because

  • Movements were so difficult.
  • I can’t even scratch my buttock when I felt itchy. My husband had to help me scratch.
  • I could not button my trousers – my husband had to do this for me.

See now, I can twist my body to the right or left without any pain, I can stand on one leg and I can eat rice with my hand.

Now do you still want to die? Le: No, no more.

I really don’t know why I did what I did that Friday night (four days ago). Usually I would only ask you to take the herbs first for a few weeks or months before going into the e-Therapy. However, that night I sensed that you were having much difficulties and so we decided to put you on the e-Therapy right away. I did not know why I did that. Perhaps it was God who was helping you!

Okay, four days on the Therapy. Did you feel good? Le: Absolutely good.

Are you confident now? Le: Absolutely confident. When I came here, I knew that this is God’s answer to my prayers.

When you go home, take the herbs as instructed. Then you must take care of your diet as we have taught you. Exercise. Don’t think too much – relax and take it easy. Don’t stress yourself too much. What is important is to try to live a normal life. Le: My facial appearance looks good now. More “glow”.

Okay, I am real happy. Please take care when you are at home. Remember what we have told you. Do not do anything that is not right. And above all, remember that healing takes time. Have patience.

My Dreams

Before I came here, I used to have dreams everyday when I slept. My sleep was not good and disturbed.

What did you dream about? Le: My relatives and loved ones who have died visited me. They told me they have already built a house for me there and invited me to come “home” with them.

Are you sure? Le: Yes. So according to religious belief, I would have to put flowers at the road junction to make peace with the spirits so that they don’t come back again. I did that.

You dreamt of your loved ones asking you to come “home” with them? Le: Yes. But I told them I didn’t want to go. We even sat down together to have a feast – eating together but I told them I did not want to stay there. In one dream, my husband and I visited the “Garden of Eden.” He was carrying a big luggage containing all my clothes.

Oh, it seems your time is not up yet! And after you came here, you took the herbs and did the e-Therapy for four days. Did you still dream? Le: I could sleep very well and soundly. I did not dream anymore.

My Near Death Experience

One night in March 2010, as I opened the dressing of my breast wound, blood suddenly “shot” out from the wound  – one hole was on top of my breast and another below my breast. The blood spurt out rather far off. I had to use eight towels to soak up the blood. I tried to use ice to “cool” it down and stop the bleeding. It did not work. Then my son suggested that I only use the bandage and nothing else. I pressed on the wound and the bleeding stopped. My ears made a “hissing” sound and my vision became blurred and withdrawn. I started to float away – far, far away.

Like you went through a tunnel? Le: Yes, yes. Then I found myself on a white vehicle but there was driver. I was alone on the vehicle. It drove pass the clouds and I floated around, among these clouds. It was all white. I did not feel any pain or anything. It was just absolute emptiness – total blank with no feelings.

When or how did you come back? People around me were singing hymns. Then my daughter tugged my arm and said, “Mama, please do not leave me.” I then woke up. When I regained consciousness, I felt dizzy. My vision was blurred and I saw multiple images.

She presented with aches and pains throughout her body, especially the joints. She could not bend her fingers.  She could not sleep well and she had coughs.

1.  My 42-year-old friend with breast cancer died after chemotherapy

Le:  My friend also had breast cancer like me. She died after two years. She went to Singapore to find the best medicine for her breast cancer. It started with just a tiny tumour. She had it removed and then underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy. She was okay. Then the cancer spread to her bones. They installed a chemo-port in her and she continued to receive more chemo. She took the best “bird nests”  to help her cope with the side effects of chemo. After this chemo, there were spots all over her skin.

Are you sure? Was she you friend?  Le: Yes. Even with such effects she continued to receive more chemos. In total she had 38 cycles of chemotherapy. After that she looked okay, okay but her nails were all dark. Then the cancer went to her backbone and spread to her brain. Then she continued with radiotherapy and more chemo in Surabaya. She died.

How old was she? Le: Forty-two.

I fully understand, I understand.

2.  Four of my friends already died after medical treatments

Le: Four of my friends already died of cancer. Two of them had breast cancer, one had colon cancer and the other one had cancer of the uterus.

They were all your friends? Le: Yes, they died. They were all below their 50s. And they all had operation and chemotherapy.

They all died, and because of this you decided not to go for an operation and chemo? When did this happen – while you had your cancer? Le: When I had my breast cancer and they also had their cancers.

Oh, at the same time. They took a different road and you took a different path? Le: Yes, exactly.

I understand. I fully understand you. That is the reason why I did not want to push anybody who come here to go for chemo or radiation. The stories you have told me are being repeated over and over.

3. Uncle died after spending 6 Billion Rupiahs

Le:  My uncle had lung cancer. He went to Singapore for treatment. In all, he spent 6 miliar (billion) rupiahs. He also died. After so many chemos, even the veins in his arm seemed to disappear. He did not take care of his diet. He ate anything he liked. At the same time, I also had my cancer. He told me to eat what I liked but I refused to listen to his advice.

And your uncle died? Le: Yes, died after three years.

And at the same time, you also had your cancer. And is it because of this that you did not want to go for medical treatment? Le: No, no. There is a feeling inside me wanting to reject chemo.  These people did not die because of their cancers. They died because of their chemos. Their haemoglobin, platelets and white blood cells were all down and gone!

I understand you, I truly understand. But what I want to say is we should not totally reject medical treatments. At times we need the doctors to help us. We can use certain things that doctors do to help us. And we can reject those that are harmful to us. This is what I would tell patients.

 4.  See what happened to me now when I believed the doctor!

Le: I would agree to go to the doctors to check where my tumour is. But if they prescribe medication, I would not take it. See this is what happened to me  – this is the evidence! This is the first time I believed the doctor and this is what I get (figures unable to bend and later unable to walk after taking Tamoxifen for a month).

It all began with a small lump in my left breast. I ignored it. Some years later, I went to see an oncologist. He asked me to undergo a biopsy and later operate. I declined. I opted for alternative therapy. I took all kinds of supplements (See Part 2: Alternative Therapies  –  My Twenty-One- Million-Rupiah Per Month Treatment).

The lump grew bigger and eventually burst. It was then that I went to see a radiologist and underwent radiotherapy. I had my first radiation treatment in November 2009. I received 25 treatments for my left breast. The tumour shrunk and eventually disappeared.

Three months later, another lump grew just below my neck. It grew bigger and bigger. I again received another 25 radiation treatments for this. The lump also disappeared after the treatment.

Four months later, two more tumours appeared, one on each of my breasts. I again received 25 radiation treatments for each of my left and right breasts.

I also received 6 radiation treatments for my ovaries.

While on radiotherapy, another lump appeared just below my left collar bone but this eventually disappeared after I completed the radiation treatment for my two breasts. However, now I have another lump in my abdomen.

While undergoing the later stage of radiotherapy, I took Tamoxifen.  After two weeks on Tamoxifen my fingers became stiff and it was difficult and painful to bend them. After a month on Tamoxifen I was unable to walk. Also, my neck muscles became stiff.  Before the Tamoxifen I was agile and had no mobility problems. I could exercise. I stopped taking Tamoxifen after a month. My doctor told me the cancer had gone to my bones.

Early this month, a good friend in Makassar called me. She advised that I have had too much radiation already and my body would not be able to accept it anymore. I should look for other alternative treatment. But all this while, I had been on alternative treatments. I took all kinds of supplements. My friend suggested that I go to Penang and meet a Chris Teo.

The above is a bitter-sweet story of Le, a 37-year-old female from Indonesia. She came to us on 14 October 2011 after having been diagnosed with breast cancer that had probably spread to her lungs. She presented with aches and pains throughout her body, especially the joints. She could not bend her fingers.  She could not sleep well and she had coughs.

Le was prescribed Capsule A, Breast L and Breast M teas, Pain tea, Lung 1 and Lung 2 teas besides Cough # 10. She was put on the e-Therapy with Detox #2. That was on Friday evening.

On Sunday night (two days later), Le came back and reported as follows.

I went back to my apartment and slept through the night, from 7 pm to 6 am. I woke up just to eat and drink the herbal teas and then went back to sleep again.

Before this therapy, were you able to sleep? Le: Difficult.

On Saturday (no e-Therapy but only on herbs) did you sleep through the day? Le: Yes. I slept, woke up to eat and then went back to sleep again. I ate corn and fruits.

When you were at home, could you sleep like this? Le: No. At home when I woke up from sleep, I would feel pains. Now, I have no more pain. I could sleep in any position or posture, I had no pain. I was unable to do such a thing when I was at home.

Did you really sleep well – soundly? Le: Yes. I also passed out a lot of “gas” … boot, boot. I would walk to and fro from Kenny’s apartment to the market. I did not have any problem walking. I could not do such thing at home. I would become breathless if I walk like that.

Now, when you walk, did you become breathless? Le: No. Now, I can also hold the broom and sweep the floor. I can now make my bed and fold the blanket. I could not do that before. I could not even lift the blanket let alone fold it. This morning, I even “hit” the pillows.

Now, what other problems do you have? Le: Coughs. Before, I was not able to twist my body around – to the right or left. I would have muscle pull or cramp. Now, no more cramps. After taking the herbs for two days, there are no more body pains.

No more pain anywhere? Le: No more.

So, for the past two days, do you really feel well? Le: Yes. Strong (taking a deep breath).

Do you have any other problem? Le: Only cough now.

Breast Cancer: From Despair to Hope in Five Days

1: Healing In Five Days

2: Her Tragic Story

Acknowledgment:  Permission to use these video clips without having to close the patient’s face is granted by the family.

The gist of our conversation:

1.  Breast lump, ten years ago and she did nothing about it.

She discovered a lump in her breast more than   ten years ago but did nothing about it. The lump grew bigger. In 2008, she went to Kuching, Malaysia for a full-body check up. At that time she did not experience any serious discomfort. However, the check up revealed a stage 4 breast cancer since it had probably spread to her bones.

Did she suffer any pains before the check up? Yes, she had pains around the shoulder blade. After a massage the pains disappeared.

2.  Trips to China to find the cure.

The doctor in Kuching suggested chemotherapy. She refused. The family decided to bring her to China for medical treatment. She received treatments such as chemotherapy, cryoablation and radioactive seeding  in the Chinese hospital.

She stayed about one to two weeks in China during each trip there.  She returned home feeling “alright” only to go back to China again for more treatment each year.

Did they teach you to take care of her diet? No, she was told to eat anything she likes. They did not teach her anything about the diet.

3. A Minor Fall

In January 2011, she had a minor fall. This cause one of her legs to become swollen. But even before the fall, she always had pains in her legs. She consulted a doctor in Kuching about this problem and was told that nothing was wrong with her leg but she probably had cancer in her colon.

4.  Leg Operation

Since February 2011, she was not unable to walk and remained immobilized at home. One of her leg was in pain and the other was swollen. She was unable to place her feet on the ground and stand up because of pains.

She went to Jakarta for further consultation.  Subsequently she underwent a surgery intervention for both of her legs.

Two months after the surgery she was able to walk. There were no more pains in the foot when she stepped on the ground. But the pains in the lower parts of her legs persisted.

 5.  Did no return to China anymore

Did she go back to China again after this? No. We made a total of six trips to China.  In 2008, she went to China thrice, in 2009, twice and in 2010 once. No use – at every visit they asked us to do PET scan, chemo, etc. She became tired, vomited, etc.

6.  Hospitalization – September 2011

In late September 2011, she had pains in her abdomen and was unable to walk again. She had to be hospitalized. The oncologist suggested a PET scan to find out what was wrong with her. The family declined.  By this time she was taking a variety of medications prescribed by the oncologist, bone specialist and neurologist.

3.  CA Care Penang – 9 October 2011

She was wheel chair bound. She had to be carried up into the airplane. She was unable to stand up by herself.

She was unable to sleep and had pains in her legs throughout the day and night.  After listening to her story that 9 October night, we could only say this to her family, I really don’t know what I can do to help you. But I shall try my best. It was indeed a hopeless and helpless case.

After five days on the e-Therapy and herbs, her conditions improved.  The pains in her legs were almost gone. She was able to sleep and above all she was able to stand up by herself with minimal help.

Update: On 26 October 2011, her daughter-in-law called to say that patient (now at home in Jakarta) is able to walk by herself with the help of a walking stick. On the day when she returned home, she was able to slowly walk into the airplane – no need to be carried into the plane like the week before.

Chemotherapy for Three-Year-Old Boy with Neuroblastoma

To: chris@cacare.com

Sent: Tuesday, June 21, 2011 Subject: Neuroblastoma – Stage 3 (from Singapore) – Need help!!!

Dear Sir,   I have read your successful story of how a baby of stage 4 neuroblastoma was saved from the terror of chemotherapy. It is only if I could have discovered you and your web site earlier that I might not have sent my son who had been diagnosed with stage 3 neuroblastama for his first round of chemo 3 weeks ago.

My son of 3 years old was discovered to have a mass near the left side of the kidney on the 29th April 2011. Immediately, he was sent to hospital and after all the scans and biopsy, it was confirmed that he had a tumour. But it was not confirmed if it was a ganglioneuroblastoma or a neuroblastoma. However, an operation was scheduled on the 9th May to take out the tumour. After which, dissection of the tumour has discovered that 7 out of 15 lymph nodes are positive for metastatic tumour. It was confirmed that my son was having neuroblastoma, Stage 3.

As a parent, I was totally depressed, lost and confused at that moment, and tried all ways to save my son. Left with limited choices and no perfect knowledge, my son was sent to the first round of chemo therapy on 1st June 2011. My son was admitted to the hospital for a MIBG scan again last week. It was good news that the body is clean. However, I was also told that the MIBG can only pick up images that are visible to the eyes. We are back at home today. The next chemo is scheduled for 29th June.

Yes, my son is currently seeing a Chinese physician. He is taking some Chinese medicine and herbs. I cannot really tell but my son seem to still able to eat a good meal and no fever so far. I can bring along the Chinese herbs list by the TMC because I cannot read Chinese.

Chris, I really need your advice and please help me. If possible, I would like to make an appointment with you by flying down to Penang from Singapore. I will bring along all the necessary medical reports of my son for your perusal.  Best Regards. DK

Hi Chris,

Thank you so much for your reply. In the meantime, I shall send my son’s medical report for your perusal. He has stage 3 neuroblastoma. I hope that you are able to help him. Also, I hope that you are able to help him to prevent the “poison” of chemotherapy. However, my son scheduled to get into the hospital again on 29th June again for 2nd chemo. I will try my best to push them again. I look forward to see you in July. Thank you so much. Good day!  DK

15 Sept 2011

Hi Chris,

How are you? If you remember that in June this year I sent you a letter that I intend to visit you, but you were in USA. You told me that you will be back in July but unfortunately that my son is in and out of the hospital, and also my wife had given birth to our second child that I was really not able to make it.

I have stopped my first child for chemotherapy as he could not take it anymore. I really need to talk to you as I knew you have successfully treated a child with neuroblastoma before. As such, I intend to fly to Penang next Wednesday to meet you up. Please highlight to me how can I arrange to meet up with you. Will appreciate very much.

I will bring along all medical reports and CDs . Also, just to inform that my son is presently also under Chinese TMC medications. Hope to hear from you as soon as possible. Thank you very much. Best regards. DK, Desperate parent.

Dear DK,

Since your son is already on TCM medication, I suggest that you continue with it. No use coming to see me. Let him rest from the destructive effect of the chemo. Even if you come and see me, I am not sure what I can offer you. Your TCM could be just as good as what I am doing. It is also very, very hard for me to care for little children. Chris.

16 September 2011

Hi Chris,

Thank you so much for your kindness to give me the chance to meet up with you. At least I am more at ease. I shall book a fright now to Penang and try to reach on time in the Wednesday morning. If I cannot reach on time on Wednesday (21.09.11) morning due to flight schedule, I will see you on Thursday (22.09.11) morning, staying one night in Penang on Wednesday. Thank you very much. Best regards. DK

6 October 2011

Hi Chris,

Thank you for giving me the chance to see you in person two weeks ago. My son has already been taken your herbs for about two weeks. I can see that he has good energy improvement except that the first few days, he has “rough” voice, could be due to heat, I don’t know.

Thank you very much of everything. Finally, just want to refer you to a blog below by a mother whose daughter is having a neurobalstoma for 2.5 years, and fighting for her last moment now.  I totally drop on the chemo treatment, partly after I read this blog.  The blog: http://ourfeistyprincess.blogspot.com/

Her daughter is suffering tremendously after the chemo. I am pointing you to this blog because you have success in treating neuroblastoma case before. I just hope that more children will be able to be treated successfully by your herbs rather than the killing chemo. So, please continue to review any medical cases of baby and young children referred to you. God bless. DK

DK came to see us on 22 September 2011. The following is our video-taped conversation that morning.

Comments

This is a case of a desperate father who has to live through the agony of seeing his 3-year-old son undergoing surgery and then chemotherapy. The treatment plan was 7 cycles of chemotherapy, followed by radiotherapy and BMT (bone marrow transplantation). The parent was told, Without chemotherapy the cancer will come back within 6 months. With this intensive treatment the chances of cure is 40 to 50 percent.

The treatment sounds excellent if your son is alright, but what if you have to see your son suffering from the side effects of the chemo? As parent, you have to decide if the agony is worth it. There is this often quoted phase, The treatment is worse than the disease!

Dr. Jerome Groopman of Harvard University (in How Doctors Think) wrote, Understandably, people want the home run. But often in oncology what we achieve is less than that. And the risk is, by going for the home run, you can strike out. In crude simple language it just means this – Yes, all patients hope to achieve a cure, after spending so much money and having to endure all the sufferings, but how many realized that in the quest to find that cure you might just die half way?

Specifically in this case, let us assume that the aggressive chemo, radiation and bone marrow transplantation was a success (note – 40 to 50% chance only) the question that has never been addressed is, What could happen after that? Will the child grow up normally? How much would the trauma that he had undergone undermine his well being as he grows up? Will he get another cancer again sometime in the future? It cannot be denied, the likelihood of another cancer striking him is real.

What Others Say

Prof Raymong Tallis, in his article, The ultimate aims of medicine and the future of old age, http://www.hkag.org/Publications/AJGG/v1n3/p157-SP-27.pdf, wrote,  Medicine, it seems to me, has two broad aims: to postpone dying due to disease and to mitigate the suffering (pain, disability, anguish) disease may bring. Despite the continuing remarkable triumphs of science-based medicine, some recent developments have prompted questions about whether these two aims may be coming into conflict.

From the perspective of a Buddhist, Eric Tsang, (in an article, Prolong life = prolonging pains http://www.etsang.net/article/art013.htm) brings into focus some hard truth we need to face. He wrote,  Advancing technologies and medication may be good, but not good enough to conquer maturity and death. New drugs create hopes, but at the same time they create suffering and frustration as hopes vanish. As hospitals are increasingly bureaucratized, the patient is no longer a person in the hospital but turning into a case, a number or a file. In other words, hospitalization has become a process of dehumanization. Dehumanization, however, rationalizes the dilemma of prolonging life of the dying patients at the expenses of extra unnecessary pains and suffering … drugs and equipment can only prolong the life of the terminal patients artificially, rather than curing them … prolonged life promises nothing but endless pain and suffering, not only to the patients but also the loved ones, the friends, families and the health care personnel.” Tsang further added that, “The endless strife on new technologies and novel drugs, at the end of the day, reflects human greed and ignorance. The greed is for knowledge, desire, controls, powers, glories, admiration, satisfaction, etc., and the ignorance of the mystery of life and nature.

From a professional perspective, Dr. Bernie Siegel (in Peace, Love & Healing) wrote, Our profession can be incredibly cruel in its relentless focus on keeping people from being dead no matter what the consequences. We have to learn that death is not pathological; it’s a natural part of living, which we doctors have rendered as unnatural.

Dr. Jerome Groopman of Harvard University (in How Doctors Think) wrote,

  • When a physician and patient make decisions about treatment, they should be mindful of the benefits and risks, the needs and goals they share. Their choices should be free of the influences of financial gain and the biases introduced by corporate marketing.
  • Occasionally people with advanced cancers are “flogged,” a distasteful term used in clinical medicine to describe continued toxic therapy with no real point. There are some oncologists who seem to believe that it’s wrong for someone to die without receiving every possible drug.
  • People really wouldn’t want to be treated this way if they truly understood what the likelihood of benefit was.
  • If you do an experiment two times and you don’t get results, then it doesn’t make sense to do it the same way a third time. You have to ask yourself: What am I missing? How should I do it differently the next time?
  • … because it is much easier both psychologically and logistically for a doctor to keep treating a serious disease with a familiar therapy even when the disease is not responding.
  • How an oncologist thinks through the value of complex and harsh treatments demands not only an understanding of science but also a sensibility about the soul – how much risk we are willing to take and how we want to live out our lives.

Let me close by quoting Dr. Robin Kelly (in Healing Ways – a doctor’s guide to healing),

  • It is understandable that many cancer specialists are truly concerned when patients, especially children, forsake orthodox therapy in favour of alternative therapies …. Because of the overwhelming side effects, despite of the doctor’s prognosis of a possible cure from such treatment … As a parent I tried to place myself in his patients’ position; how would I react to watching my child suffer as a result of the side effects of this powerful treatment?
  • The crying, the hair loss, the nausea. How much would this conflict with my own instincts to protect my child from the toxic effects of the world? Who would I really be doing this for? How much was this to do with my own fear of dying? These are questions born out of love.
  • There is, I’m sure, a better way. Fear of dying must not dominate over the love of living.

Two-Month Old Baby with Neuroblastoma Stage IV – Three to Six Months to Live https://cancercaremalaysia.com/2011/10/11/two-month-old-baby-with-neuroblastoma-stage-iv-three-to-six-months-to-live/

Two-Month Old Baby with Neuroblastoma Stage IV – Three to Six Months to Live

Baby is a 2-month-old female. Sometime in May 1999, the doctor felt swelling in her abdomen. She was however, not in pain or showed any symptoms. On 27 May 1999, an ultrasound was done and the radiologist report was as follows:

There are multiple hypodense lesions in both lobes of the liver of varying sizes. The liver is enlarged.

Conclusion: This features are suggestive of multiple metastasis. Patient would need further CT abdomen or an MRI examination.

A blood test was done and the report dated 28 May 1999 is as follows:

Total protein 58
Albumin 33
Globulin 25
A/G ratio 1.3
Total bilirubin 22.5
Alkaline phosphatase 272   H
SGOT 134   H
SGPT 176   H
Alpha fetoprotein 187.0 H

The MRI report done on 28 May 1999 is as follows:  The liver is enlarged measuring about 9 cm. Multiple rounded lesions measuring 0.5 to 2 cm are seen involving both lobes of the liver. These lesions appear hypointense on T1W and hyperintense on T2W images. This indicates that the lesions are unlikely to represent haemangioma or cysts. There appears to be a 2x3x4 cm hypointense mass seen anterior to the left kidney. There is a 1 cm lesion seen in both suprarenalregions. These probably represent adrenal masses.Impression: Multiple rounded lesions are seen in both lobes of the liver which are not typical of haemangioma or cysts. These are probably metastatic lesions. A possible mass is seen anterior to the left kidney. Smaller 1 cm masses are noted in both supra-renal regions. Neuroblastoma is a possible daignosis. Suggest a biopsy of the liver lesion to assess these.

A biopsy was done on 29 May 1999 and the report is as follows:

Specimen consists of several slender cores of brownish tissue measuring in aggregate 19x5x1 mm.  Interpretation: Liver biopsies show metastatic small round cell neoplasm with feactures suggestive of metastatic Neuroblastoma.  On this report is scribbled: Stage IV. Prof S … (S’pore).

The doctor suggested that Baby undergo chemotherapy. The mother was told that she only has three to six months at most to live. The mother refused and the doctors scolded her, You money or your baby’s life?

It was one June morning of 1999, when Chris received a phone call from one desperate lady who wanted to see him. Chris said this to her: I don’t know what I can do to help you … especially if she is only two months old … but if talking to you will be of help … then, come to my house immediately.  Baby’s mother, father and grandmother came. Chris was stunt and numb-folded to see those liver lesions shown by the MRI. The mother was full of tears and as we talked for almost two hours. Things got better after that.  At the end, every one smiled.  Chris suggested taking AB powder and no oil, meat, milk, salt, sugar in the diet.  Live on carrot juice – even for this two- month old baby. It is a hard advice to swallow. But what else can we do? The parents decided to leave Baby alone without any further benefit of medical intervention.

17 November 1999. The mother told us that the doctor did an ultrasound and said that there was no more swelling of the liver. The liver was softer and it had shrunk in size. Chris expected the worse and this was real great news.

23 August 2000. Baby and her parents came to our house. She is now 1 year 5 months and has not given any problems up to this day. She is a very active baby – and smart too!  It is indeed a great joy to see her so well.

We can not understand what had happened – or do we need to understand what had happened? Do we need an answer? To us, we lift up our eyes to the heavens and give thanks. The Almighty is Great and Merciful and He has blessed this baby — why? We don’t know that either, and we may never know. So, be it – let His will be done.

The mother told us that Baby’s head smells of carrot! Yes, friends let the carrots go into your head and let you smell of carrots – so what, for as long as you are well. As for Baby’s family, everyone is happy and Baby now has a younger sister!

EXACTLY ten years later, a lady and a young girl walked into our centre! It was Baby and her mother.

Watch this video of Chris presenting this case. He was was invited to speak at the 2nd International Nursing Conference organized by the Ministry of Health Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, 2 August 2010: What It Takes To Heal Cancer

Message 3: The use of commonsense in decision making is just as vital as the treatment itself.

Baby was only two-months old when she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, Stage 4. Chemotherapy was recommended but her parents declined. She was put on our therapy. Exactly ten years later, her mother brought Baby to see us – with tears of gratitude rolling down her eyes for this miraculous healing. Would you subject your two-month-old baby to chemotherapy?

The questions to ask: What could have happened to Baby if she was “chemoed” when she was at two months old? What could have happened if her mother did not go against the doctor’s advice? It is not a poor judgement on the part of the doctor to insist that Baby undergo chemotherapy – even for a 2-month-old?

What is Neuroblastoma?

It is the second commonest childhood cancer. About 75% of such cancer occur before the age of four.  This curious tumour arises from a group of cells called neural crest. Their development is related to the following:

  1. A certain kind of nerve tissue anywhere in the body. But more generally it is associated with the nerves in the chest or abdomen.
  2. Most commonly to the adrenal glands, located above each kidney,
  3. The other sites of development can be: lymph nodes, skin, liver (in which case it causes an enlargement) and rarely does a neuroblastoma originate in the brain.

The tumour can spread widely giving rise to secondaries in the bone, bone marrow and liver. Rarely does it spread to the lungs.

Diagnosis & Symptoms

According to Dr. Victoria Dorr, the diagnosis of neuroblastoma can be difficult. The most common symptom of neuroblastoma is the swelling or presence of a large mass in the abdomen area. This may be accompanied by some pain or is painless. In cases where the cancer has already spread and affected the bone marrow, it may cause the reduction of the red blood cells, causing the child to be anemic. If the platelets are affected it gives rise to easy bruising, and in case where the white blood cells are lowered, the child has lowered resistance to infection. The cancer can spread to the skin and in which case it produces nodule. If the cancer has spread to the spinal cord it can cause a rare combination of symptoms such as sudden, uncontrollable eye movement, poor coordination, rigidity, spasm and weakness of muscle in the body, arms and legs.

About 90% of neuroblastoma produce hormones such as epinephrine, which can increase heart rate and cause anxiety.

Prognosis & Medical Treatment

Children under one year old and with small tumours have a very good chance of cure. If the cancer has not spread yet, surgery offers the best option of cure. If the cancer is large and has already spread, then chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy are indicated. The chemo-drugs that may be used are vincristine, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin and cisplatin. Relief of symptoms can be obtained by the use of corticosteroids, such as prednisone.

Dissecting Chemotherapy Part 9: Nose Cancer – Do Chemo You Go Blind, No Chemo You Also Go Blind

HG is a 53-year-old male from Singapore. In November 2010, he had a slight headache. His blood pressure was elevated. The doctor prescribed him medication for a month but this was not effective. His problem developed into double vision. An eye specialist could not found anything wrong with his eyes. HG was referred to an ENT. A brain MRI was performed. There was no indication of anything wrong. A nasal endoscopy done also did not reveal anything wrong. Nevertheless the ENT performed a biopsy.

A biopsy report dated 9 November 2010 indicated a non-keratinising, undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma of the left post-nasal space.

The doctor suggested radiation or chemotherapy. HG declined the treatment, believing that this is too invasive.

In February 2011, GH consulted another ENT in private practice. A nasal endoscopy was again performed. Again, nothing was found. A biopsy was again done. The result confirmed previous finding of an undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

HG was told by the oncologist that the nerves affected his eyes, hence the double vision. The treatment would take about one year and during this period he would not be able to work.  HG was also told, “The chemo would be able to cure, but you may go blind. And if you don’t do chemo you also go blind.”  HG asked himself, “What kind of a quality of life is that?”

HG was in a real dilemma when he came to see us on 22 July 2011. He wanted to try the herbs.  HG was prescribed Capsule A, deTox tea, NPC 1 and NPC 2 teas, Brain Tea and Pain Tea. For his frequent urination he was given A-Kid-6 tea.

We reminded HG that we would not promise any cure at all. If after taking the teas for a few weeks and there was no positive indication, then HG should consider finding someone else or something else to help him.

We suggested that GH consult another doctor. He shook his head violently and said, NO!

NHL-Kidney: Cancer-free after Six Months On the Herbs

Peter is a male, 56 years old. He was diagnosed with renal lymphoma involving both kidneys. The CT-scan on 12 November 1995 showed infiltration of the kidney by diffuse NHL (non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma), intermediate grade T-immuno type. Three years after chemotherapy, Peter had a relapse. He was then prescribed oral chemo, which made him miserable. Peter came to seek our help in August 1999. Six months later, he was cancer-free.

Peter shared his story with us in July 2000.

The kidney specialist told me I had to go for a kidney biopsy. First, they did an ultrasound on me. The doctor told me: Mr. Tham, I’m sorry to say that the report has come back, and you are in the third stage of cancer. You have a cancer in both kidneys. I was shocked. I just didn’t know what to say. So I told the doctor: I need a rest. After that I went to a university hospital for a second opinion and the doctors confirmed that it was cancer.

I was put on chemotherapy. It was terrible. I suffered very, very badly. After the first treatment, I didn’t want to go back anymore. I just couldn’t eat and my stools couldn’t come out. I began to worry too much. That was the first chemotherapy. They told me that I had to go for at least six cycles. The drugs used were: cyclophosphamide 500 mg, + epirubicin 100 mg, + vincristine 2 mg, and Prednisone 100 mg (oral).

My life was miserable. I just couldn’t face the facts of life. Cancer meant death. I was really, really down. I prayed to all the gods for peace in my life. But I just couldn’t find one who could give me the peace. Then my daughter said: Why don’t you go to church? My wife agreed. At that time, I couldn’t sleep at night. Every hour I woke her up to be sure that I was still alive. I went to church and the pastor prayed for me. That night I could sleep. I felt brave, knowing that God was with me. I put my faith and trusted in the Living God. Since God gave us life, He also had the right to take it away. Then and only then did I go for chemotherapy, the second, third, fourth, until the sixth time.

The doctors said that I was OK. I had no guidance about food. The doctors told me: You can eat anything you want but they also told me not to touch red meat. I went to two hospitals every three months for check-ups.

In June 1999, the doctor advised me to go for a CT scan (Gallium test). I also went for an ultrasound and two weeks later, a medical check-up. My kidneys were swollen.

The doctor told me that I had cancer again.

The doctors didn’t want to give me liquid chemotherapy, because they found out that my heart was weakened from the first chemotherapy. So they prescribed oral chemotherapy instead.

At first, these drugs were 100 gm cyclophosphamide and 100 gm procarbizide as the first dose. I couldn’t complete the first course of fourteen doses over fourteen days. I felt very weak, and couldn’t eat or sleep properly. I lost weight. My stools were sometimes very soft, sometimes very hard. But all these were not as severe as the first time I underwent chemotherapy, though.

On the 12th day of the course, I collapsed when I was in church. I didn’t realise that my stools had came out. I had loose stools. It was most embarrassing. I was carried out to another room and people prayed for me. I was awakened by those around me, and I was helped home. At home, I collapsed again, twice.

I went to see the Professor at the university hospital again. This time, I couldn’t even walk properly. I had a limp. I think the medicine affected my legs. My stomach was cramped. It was really, very painful. The doctor prescribed a reduced dose, half of the original dose I took earlier. During the second course, I still felt horrible. They seemed to be poisoning me. But, after a while I felt I was getting better, although I still couldn’t eat or sleep well and had no appetite. I continued to take the oral chemo-drugs for 14 days. I was miserable, but at least I didn’t collapse.

I was on the second course for about a week, when I saw the article on herbs in the newspaper. I called the Centre (CA Care in Subang Jaya). That was the turning point for me. When I came, I saw that I was not alone. Why not give it a try? I was doubtful but the article said that there was hope, and I had no choice. I explained my problems to Mr. Yeong and brought my medical records to him.

I was prescribed Capsule A and deTox tea. I continued with the chemotherapy. Within a week, I found that I could eat. I felt hungry. For about two weeks, I farted a lot. It was very, very smelly. My bowel movements progressively improved. The first week I had very bad diarrhoea. I panicked as the stools just gushed out. I wondered if something was wrong. I thought everything was loosening up inside me. I called the Centre and they told me to keep on taking the herbs. So I continued. Gradually, the sweating and the diarrhoea disappeared. I found that I could eat and sleep. That made me feel secure. I found hope. If I couldn’t eat or sleep, it made me miserable. I knew that this improvement was the effect of the herbs. I began to trust the herbs more.

Apart from the herbs and the oral chemotherapy, did you take anything else?

No,nothing else. Only oral chemotherapy and capsule A and the deTox tea. And I felt much better.

How long were you on chemotherapy?

I was on chemotherapy for six cycles.

So let’s recall – you went for the first cycle of fourteen days, then you collapsed. You had the second cycle at a reduced dose for another fourteen days, rested for fourteen days before going on to the third cycle (again for fourteen days), still at the reduced dose. You kept going until your completed six cycles (of fourteen days with the drug and fourteen days of rest).

Yes. When I took the herbs during the chemotherapy, I felt great, and I found that my creatinine readings kept decreasing. After the sixth cycle it was 145. From 280 to 290, it gradually went down to 145.

Did the doctor ask you anything?

The doctor told me that I was improving. I wasn’t sure whether to tell the doctor about the herbs or not. As you know, doctors don’t like you taking herbs. So I didn’t tell her. But I did talk about the herbs with other cancer patients while I was in the waiting room. I don’t know if that got across to the doctor.

After you finished your six cycles of chemotherapy, what happened next?

They gave me an appointment to come back and see them in three to four months’ time. Every three to four months, I was to have a check-up – they check the urine, blood, everything.

The doctor advised me to go for a CT scan … That was done in March 1999 at the university hospital. … When I saw the doctor, she told me: I have very good news for you’re completely healed.  I was stunned!

Medical report from the Nuclear Medicine Unit – UHKL, dated 1 March 2000 indicated that: The repeat Gallium study now shows no Gallium uptake on both kidneys indicating complete healing of NHL of both kidneys. Inference: Complete healing of NHL of both kidneys.

After the report, what did the doctor say?

The doctor reminded me of the previous blood sample that they took in 1996, after I had finished the first course of chemotherapy. They refrigerated it, intending to put it back into me. (This is to do the bone marrow transplant – BMT). The doctor suggested that perhaps I should do the BMT. The doctor told me that it would cost RM20,000 to RM30,000 to do the procedure here, but it would cost over a hundred thousand inAustralia. I might suffer some side effects and might also die during the process of returning my cells to my body.

The first thing I said was: I can’t tell you now (if I would do the BMT or not). I have to discuss it with my family. I thought about it and called the Centre and asked for advice. The answer given to me was: Why must you go through all this? You’re doing well, why must you take the risk? You’ve got the herbs! My family agreed. I told the doctor that I had decided not to go for the BMT.

When was the offer to do the transplant made to you?

After the report was released, after the CT scan, when I was cancer-free.

After you were declared cancer-free, they wanted to perform a bone marrow transplant on you? Why would they want to do something like that?

To prevent a relapse – they said by doing that I could live ten or fifteen years longer. But I thought to myself: Why should I take the risk?

Since March you have been cancer-free. How have you felt these past four months?

I am feeling good. Yes. I go back to see my doctor every three months. I saw the doctor on 7 July 2000. Now, I can drive. Before, I dared not even drive.

Besides driving, what other things do you feel that you are able to do?

I am able to work. I find that I can walk without getting tired, go fishing, reading any books or newspapers without feeling tired in my eyes.

Note: As of this writing, June 2009 – Peter is still doing fine, living a happy, cancer-free life.

Kidney Mass Miraculously Disappeared After Herbs

Sam (not real name) is a 74-year old male from Singapore. He had undergone an operation to remove a 8 x 4 cm tumor at his colon in October 2005. The pathology report indicated a “moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma infiltrating into the subserosal fat with no lymph node metastasis”. The resection margins were free of the tumor. Nothing eventful happened after the surgery and Sam recovered well. A follow up surveillance check with a CT scan on 21 February 2006, indicated “a new left adrenal mass measuring 4.5 x 3.6 cm”. This was suspicious of metastasis.

Due to the renal mass, Sam was asked to undergo chemotherapy — either via intravenous injection or oral drug. Sam opted for an oral drug. After collecting his medication, he was told of the drug’s side effects. Shocked by such revelation, Sam and his wife debated while driving home whether to take the drug or not. Sam finally decided not to take the chemo-drug.

Soon afterwards, someone happened to find our books and passed them on to Sam, who read them. He decided to send his sister and daughter to come and see us. Their mission was to find out more about our therapy. It turned out they (sister and daughter) decided that Sam should take our herbs without further delay.

Two weeks after taking the herbs, Sam went back for another CT scan follow up. The report dated 12 April 2006, showed “no adrenal mass is seen. The previously visualized ‘mass’ in the left suprarenal region is artefactual in nature”.

I received an e-mail from Sam’s daughter on 13 April 06 with this message: “He (my father) visited his surgeon … and to everyone’s amazement there was no longer any sign of spot that was present in earlier scans. It has miraculously disappeared. Needless to say we also see God’s intervention and kindness at work here”.

Sam, his wife and daughter, came to see us on 11 August 2006. Sam appeared to be a jovial, healthy man who could travel to Korea, Taiwan, etc. without problems.

This is wonderful news for two reasons. One, Sam’s tumor had disappeared. Just imagine what could have happened if he had undergone chemotherapy? We see this as a miracle – but for some others it was just a coincidence or luck. Two, now we have chemotherapy “going” herbal. The next time if you are asked to go for chemotherapy, why not ask for the “herbal type”? And better still, if they have the “organic variety”!

Kidney Cancer: A Success Story – Fifteen years on herbs and doing great!

Lee, male, was 53 years old when he was diagnosed with cancer of the kidney in March 1997. A CTscan showed a well defined solid mass in the right kidney. This could be an adenoma or a low grade carcinoma. Lee underwent an immediate surgery to remove his right kidney. The pathology report dated 14 March 1997 stated: Specimen of kidney: 225 gm, measuring about 11 cm x 5 cm x 4 cm. Yellowish tumour with fibrous areas seen in the middle of the kidney. The tumour measures about 4 cm in diameter. Interpretation: right kidney consistent with clear cell adenocarcinoma.

After the surgery, the surgeon did not consider mop-up treatment like radiotherapy or chemotherapy necessary. There was no medication to take either. Lee came to know us through our book:  Cancer Yet They Live, which was given to him by a friend. Since then he has been on our therapy.

On 31 August 2006, we had a three-hour long conversation with Lee.

Lee: My operation was in March 1997. So by March 2007, it would be ten years after my cancer diagnosis. I am doing fine.

Q: So for the past nine years, you have been taking the herbs and taking care of your diet?

A: Yes, I had been taking your herbs very seriously since my operation and I took care of my diet as you recommended.

Q: Now that you have lived for more than nine years after your cancer diagnosis – did you ever feel that cancer has been a threat to you?

A: No. I didn’t think that cancer is the only threat to my life. Everyday we all face many threats to our life. So cancer is just one of these things. In this world you face threats when you step out of the house. Even in the house, there are dangers. The idea that just because someone has cancer, he is more vulnerable than others is not right. I may die of other causes.

Q: So, during the nine years, was there a time when you felt you could not make it?

A: No, there was no such feeling. This is because the body does not show any sign of problems at all. I always look at the positive side of things and I do not pay much attention to the negative. I accept cancer as part of my life.

Q: When you look back at your cancer experience, what do you think are the factors or things that had contributed to your well-being today?

A: Firstly, it was the people around me who directly and indirectly gave me their love and touch. By their actions they expressed their desire that I get well and this made me feel much wanted. Let me give you some examples.

There was this lady who came to the hospital with a bagful of money. She placed it on my bed and said: Brother, this is seven thousand ringgit for you. If this amount is not enough, mama said please let us know. This person is not related to me. She was just a friend – a former Hainanese neighbour, belonging to the same clan as I am. I never asked anybody for any help. She came and she did not even ask me if I needed any financial help. She just deposited the money on my bed. Her action showed me that people wanted me to get well. Therefore to me, I must get well because they wanted me to get well. This incidence created a strong feeling within me that I must get well for their sake. I felt so wanted. If I was left unwanted, there was no need for me to live anymore. I might as well die.

People showed their concern and love in different ways. There was a three-year-old boy. My wife used to take care of him when he was a baby. He came and held my hand while I was lying immobilised in bed. I called out to him: Ah Boy, Ah Boy. He responded: Uncle, no need to say anything and he cried. By doing this he showed me that I was wanted. There must be a purpose for me to live on. As I have said earlier, life has a purpose and by what these people had demonstrated, I should not die yet.

Another contribution was a lady friend who gave me your book. At that time I did not know anything about cancer or about you. She personally gave me your book for she wanted me to get well. She told me: This is something which can help you, read this book and then call Dr. Chris. I felt the love and concern she had for me. Again, I felt wanted. That book was the one with a simple white cover (note: our earliest version of Cancer Yet They Live).

I did not judge the book by its cover. I read it over and over again. What the book pointed out – or what you pointed out – was very true. The junk food and the negative emotions did not take care of my body. What you wrote made a lot of sense. All along in my life in the navy, I had been eating plenty of meat – meat for breakfast, meat for lunch and meat for dinner. I ate very little vegetables and even that was over cooked. I drank a lot of hard liquor. That book made a lot of sense and I could relate it with my lifestyle. It was there for me to see and compare. That book made me realise that I had been abusing my body all those years. After I found out the mistakes of my earlier lifestyle, I started to do the right thing. The information in your book woke me up and showed me where I went wrong. Knowing my mistakes, I started to make the necessary changes and corrections. The only way for me to carry on was to stop abusing my body. Without your book, I would not have known where I had gone wrong. When I wrote you, you asked for my medical reports and later prescribed Capsule A and Mt.Guava deTox tea.

Q: After reading the book, did you need to be “pushed” to do something or did you, on your own, willingly decided to practise what I said?

A: I decided willingly to put into practice what you wrote without any push from anybody. There were friends who told me that without chemotherapy, the cancer would spread, etc., etc. But I ignored such comments. My doctor did not give me any medication. I told him that I was taking your herbs. He did not object and said: Whatever you do, you must come back for a check-up. Initially I went back for a check- up every six months and later once a year. This routine lasted for six years – doing the X-ray and scanning. I stopped going for the check- up after the seventh year although I still continue with the blood test.

Q: After you read the book, did the knowledge you got from it help you very much?

A: The contribution arising from the knowledge obtained from the book has lasted even to this day. It has not stopped. That book was the one that started to move me forward and made me want to understand more about cancer. It has changed my destiny and the outcome of my cancer journey. When I read the book, I began to fathom what the authors wanted me to know and understand. Of course, if you just skim through the pages, you learn nothing. The book has changed my life. Even today I still read it – I have done it a thousand and one times!

Q: When you took the herbs, did you believe they were going to work?

A: Yes, my hair became black and I felt better just after one week. Even before I took the herbs, I had believed what you wrote.

Q: What would you say about your doctor?

A: I was very lucky to have a kind and understanding doctor who operated on me. He not only did his job well but also was wiser than just being a doctor who operated on patients. He went further to arrange for me to be operated earlier, on the day which was not his scheduled operation day. He was prompted to do so because I had already done a biopsy and the kidney had been poked. To him it was best that the kidney be removed as quickly as possible. This caring attitude made me feel really good. My doctor did not want me to go for chemotherapy. If he had asked me to undergo chemotherapy, I would have done that too. In his wisdom he did not see the need for chemotherapy.

All the above are things that have contributed to what I am today.

Q: Now that you are doing very well and are very confident, does it occur to you that one day the cancer may come back – have you given this any thought?

A: Yes, you use the word confident. I don’t want to use that word at all. Life is uncertain. If we understand that cancer has no permanent cure, you can accept that you may be able to live for two, three, ten or twenty years and then cancer comes back again. So, that is expected.

Q: What if the cancer comes back?

A: When it comes back, I will look at it again and find out why it comes back. Maybe at that time, my body is on the downward turn due to old age. Because of that, cancer takes advantage of the situation. So, we cannot blame anything or anybody. It is a natural process of life that the body shuts down. It is just like my old Opel car. I sent it to my mechanic and he told me: Uncle, the car is “lok” (beyond repair) already and cannot be repaired anymore. I had to accept it and write it off. Life is like that and is full of uncertainty. So in life, I cannot use the word confident. If I am too certain about things, I may end up disappointed. If you don’t hope for something, there will be no disappointment.

Lung-Brain Cancer: An Impossible Healing Part 4. What It Takes to Be a Winner

In my book, Prostate Cancer Healed Naturally, I wrote, “To me, cancer is not just about a tumour in your breast, lung or liver. It is about you, as a human being. There is this quotation, There is no incurable disease, only incurable people. Therefore, my lengthy interview with patients enable me to assess each patient as a whole and “predict” the probable outcome – whether we would be able to repeat the healings that we experience in CA Care. Unfortunately, only 30 percent of patients who came to us can benefit from our therapy.”

Let me say again, it not just about taking my herbs. Many patients come to us with a very high expectation of finding a “magic bullet”. We have none. Over and over again, my experience tells me that the most important criteria for success is the person himself. This statement also applies to those who care for the patient. When a person in the family is down with cancer, it also means that everyone in the family is somehow is equally affected by the illness. That is why, sometimes I insist that the whole family come and meet me. By meeting them, I would be able to “sense” what is “really going on.” Talk to those around the patient and from what they say and how they behave I could sense what the eventual outcome would be. I often tell patients, “After talking to you for five minutes, I would probably know if I can help you or not.” Perhaps, most patients don’t understand what I meant by this.

Having assessed the patient as a person, I shall then proceed to prescribe herbs. This is a very simple thing to do.

We receive many emails each day. These email writers expect to find healing from the comfort of their own world – hoping to find “cures” with a minimum of effort.  CA Care cannot help such people.  Ours is a hard and windy road to take.

Learn from the experiences of Suri’s case. During her first visit here, I was very blunt with her husband and daughter. Let me repeat what I told them that night, “I don’t want to mislead or cheat you – making you believe that you can find a cure here. Don’t think too much or too far! If she cannot drink the herbal teas I prescribed, there is no need to bring her here again. There is nothing I can do. But if she can drink the teas, she may benefit from them. And I shall do my best to help.”

Even today the words that I said to them that night still ring in their ears. Despite these “hard” words the message was well taken. For the next few days and weeks, Suri’s husband, daughter, sister and others, were “battling” with a rebellious patient who did not want to swallow the herbs! But they did not give up. I dare say that it is their perseverance that made this amazing healing possible.

Hear the story for yourself.

This was what happened:

  • Daughter: The first time she took the herbs, she spat out the herbal tea on my face. She yelled – “Get out, get out. Don’t let me drink this.” She knew that we were boiling something. She asked, “ What is that medicine – very smelly.”
  • Daughter: This is good medicine for you.
  • The first day (turning to his nephew) even his mother got the herbs on her face. (This lady is another sister who lives in Penang).
  • Then what we did was to divert her attention away from the herbs. We joked with her. When she was more relaxed, four or five people held her head, hands and legs and we poured the herbs into her mouth. She kicked and yelled, “Let me die, let me die. I don’t want to drink the medicine. Let me die.”
  • Daughter: Mother, you do not say such things. This medicine is good for you. Normally you did not have problem taking medicine. Why are you wanting to make things difficult now?
  • Chris: Wah, if you do not have a “firm heart” and do not believe in what we are doing, you all would have given up.
  • The first few days were real “terrible”. I was afraid that she would bite her tongue. So I put my fingers into her mouth and let her bite me. She resisted strongly and refused to drink the herbal tea.
  • That is what I mean – if you don’t believe and do not help yourself, nobody can help you. I remember telling you that when you first came.
  • The first time we came to see you, I said to you,” Doc., can you give us tablets instead of the tea”. You replied, “No we only have the herbal tea. If you cannot take the tea then there is no need to come and see me.”
  • Daughter: So we had no choice. She spit it out, we put it in again. She spit out all the herbs and my whole dress was wet.
  • If you did not have this “firm will” you would not have any hope.
  • Exactly.
  • This is the message I would like to impart to all patients who come and see me. Many would say, I don’t like the bitter and smelly taste of the herbs, etc. I tell them to go home. I can’t help such people.
  • Daughter: I told everyone. Let’s have patience, have patience.
  • After taking the herbs for three days, the headaches were better?
  • Headaches were less.
  • When you came you also said she vomited. How long did it take for your to see some positive results?
  • Sister: She vomited after taking the herbs. About a month later, we started to see improvements.
  • After joking and some persuasion, she started to take the herbs without resistance. Then we have to bribe her. We gave her some money, and she would drink the tea voluntarily.
  • Sister: I left my family and came to stay with her for more than two months.
  • Early every morning I bring her out for a walk in our housing park. She walks around the basket ball court. Depending on her strength she would walk four to twelve rounds each morning.

Things went on fine. Then at the end of August 2011, Suri had a fall – ending up with two lumps on her head. Then she developed severe headaches.  Her sister called us. I requested that they come and see me immediately.   Suri, her husband and her younger sister flew to Penang on 28 August 2011 to undergo the e-Therapy at our centre. Unfortunately, this was the most awkward time to fly – Ramadan. Flights from Jakarta to Penang on all airlines were fully booked. They had to fly business class on Malaysian Airlines. It cost US$1,025.80 (8.6 million rupiahs) per person – and there were three of them!

From my observation being with them for many days, her husband and her younger sister were very dedicated caregivers. I salute them for their commitment and dedication. When they were here in Penang, we worked through the Hari Raya and Independence Day holidays. Every morning Suri underwent the e-Therapy. The results were just beyond our expectation.

This is the most rewarding experience for all of us – the patient and her family and me and my  wife.

Hello Prof. Chris,

This morning Suryana Tukiman call me and we had a talk. Now his wife has already started to take our herbs again. According him the Neurosurgeon was surprised to see the MRI result of the Brain …  full with white marks  but she is still alive and healthy after 1,5 years suffering cancer. The paralysis is due to the tumor pressing onto the motor nerve.

Now they use the NGT for food, juice and herbs into her stomach. But as you can see on the photo … she looks healthy, only a little bit skinny. These photos were taken this morning after Tukiman finished talking with me. I asked him to take these photos so I can send it to you. Teddy.

Lung-Brain Cancer: An Impossible Healing Part 3: Reflection and Confession of a Husband

When a lawyer makes a mistake, he loses his case in court; When an engineer makes a mistake, the building collapses; But when a doctor makes a mistake, it gets buried in his patient’s grave  ~ A Cancer Patient

Acknowledgment:  We thank the patient and her family for sharing this bitter-sweet story with us. Permission to use these video clips without having to cover their faces is granted by the patient’s husband.

While Suri was undergoing the e-Therapy at our centre in Penang, we took the opportunity to interview her husband. This is an opportunity to get to know in greater detail about what had really happened.  Below are excerpts of our conversation over a period of three days – 30th and 31st August and 1 September 2011.

1.       The Surrender and Started on Sutent

  • Actually her problem was detected in 2007. Examination showed a small dot in her lung. She refused to do anything about it. In 2008, while on a holiday trip to China with some friends, she became breathless and vomited. On her return from China she went to Singapore for consultation. Scan showed a large tumour in her lung – probably Stage 3A.
  • She underwent medical treatment for her lung cancer. Unfortunately her health deteriorated. Sometime in February 2011 she complained of poor vision. The eye specialist told her this could be due to cataract. But suddenly she developed severe headaches.
  •  When was she not able to walk? You came to see us in May 2011. About three months before our first visit here. Suddenly her condition just “drop” severely accompanied with severe headache. So when she came here she was not able to walk, her vision was poor – unable to recognize people around her, her left hand and right leg had no strength. Before that she was okay.
  • We brought her to Singapore to do chemotherapy. After the chemo, her condition “dropped” further. We brought her back to Jakarta and did another cycle of chemo.
  •  After that we brought her back to Singapore again to do more chemo. But “someone” up there seems to intervene. She did not have enough white blood cells. So the oncologist could not give her anymore chemo.
  • If her WBC was okay, would you have done the chemo?  We would. I fully believe in the doctor. Daughter: But I never agree to chemotherapy since the very beginning.
  • Daughter: The oncologist surrendered … she gave up. She suggested taking Sutent saying that many of her patients were cured after taking this drug. The doctor told me, “Bring this medication (Sutent) home and try it.”
  • A table of Sutent cost S$210. She took a tablet a day. She had more pains after taking the Sutent. The side effects for her were:  increased blood pressure, headaches and diabetes.  I asked the doctor why she prescribed this drug to her. The oncologist replied, “Many of my patients took it and get well. Go home and try it. If it works it works. If not she just … (gesture with his bent finger).
  • Before she took Sutent, did you not ask if the drug can cure her? No one dares to answer such a question. The oncologist told me, “I cannot say. The only one who knows the answer is the one up there!”
  • After she took Sutent her consumption of Panadol gradually increased from one tablet per day to six tablets per day.

2.       I regretted – Money Does Not Buy Cure

  • For all the treatments – radiotherapy, Iressa, Tarceva, chemotherapy and Sutent – the total cost came to more or less 2 milyar rupiah (1 milyar is 1,000,000,000 – nine zeros) which is about S$300,000. The cost of one tablet of Tarceva is S$195 and she took this for about 2 years. One tablet of Sutent cost S$210 and she took this for a month plus. One chemo cost about S$7,000. I was curious about one expenditure item of S$120.00. After an enquiry I was told that it was the cost of the chair (plus services provided) which my wife sat on while receiving chemotherapy. The doctor’s consultation cost S$150.00, if I am not mistaken. I was also told to only buy the drugs from the doctor. I was told that cheaper drugs bought outside the oncologist’s clinic could be a fake. I believed everything what the doctor told me.
  • It is okay to spend that kind of money if there was a cure. But there was no cure. I regretted for going to Singapore for the treatment.
  • Let me confess. I was full of remorse. I regretted because even before she went for chemo, my relative in Penang had suggested that we try the herbs. I refused to entertain that idea. In my mind, that is all hocus pocus. How can herbs be better than the doctors in Singapore? Herbs are just traditional stuff and if they are that good then all doctors will have to close shop. So I dismissed the idea of taking herbs as being absolutely nonsensical.  I say again, I regretted this very much.
  • The doctors told her to eat anything – to make her stronger. And when she regained her strength, she got “hammered” with the chemo again. The cycle went on and one. Where do we go from there? On reflection, I begun to see how illogical it is.
  • While we were in the hospital in Singapore, I saw a patient from Medan. This patient had been going in and out for the past eight years – coming for chemo and chemo. There was no end to it. I was afraid to ask the details of what had really happened. Anyway the patient eventually died after eight years of struggle. It struck me – this is a prolongation of a meaningless survival.

3. CA Care, the Last Hope

  • In low voice, Suri’s husband said, “Actually my wife requested that I leave her to die. She did not want to suffer any more.” At that point, a distant relative in Penang called us and suggested that we try CA Care. I had a discussion with my children. We shall abandon further medical treatment and go for herbs. At that time we were hoping for pain relief. We would accept if she dies but not to be in pain.
  • When you first came to CA Care, did you ever believe in what we do? I made it very clear to you from the very beginning that I cannot cure you. What you told me that night was most sensible. Stop taking all the bad food that encourage cancer and then use the herbs to help the body against cancer. This makes a lot of sense to me.
  • We gave her the herbs for a week. She spat it all out onto our face. My relative talked and joked with her. When she was more relaxed we held her down, squeezed her nose and forced the herbs into her throat. After three days of doing that, there were less headaches. We had more confidence in your herbs.
  • She has been on the herbs for 4 months now, have you got anything to say about that? I would like to say thank you so much for helping us. I don’t know what to say. We have been doing this therapy everyday and you didn’t even charge us (broke down and cried). If you want me to worship you, I would do that.

To this Chris replied, Don’t worship me.  Worship God and give thanks to Him. It is not me who do all these. I was just doing my best to help. My two children are doing well with their Ph.D.s. What we are doing here is not about money. In life money is not all important.

  • It is hard to do “good” for others. If you have not experienced what it is like to get cancer, you cannot understand what we are doing and why we are doing this work.

I understand. I have gone through this suffering for two and half years now. I know what you mean. That is why I am spreading words around about my wife. Many people saw my wife’s improvement.

  • My job is now done. I have nothing else to offer. Now it is your turn to take care and heal her. Never, never ever make any mistake again. Second, take care of her diet well.

Comments

It is not necessary for me to add any more comment. The story and the videos should convey enough messages.

We recognize that the work at CA Care is at odd with current medical thinking. Modern medicine wants to kill or shrink the tumour. And in the process kill the patients too. In The War on Cancer – an anatomy of failure; Dr.  Guy Faguet , a cancer researcher and medical doctor, wrote, “An objective analysis of cancer chemotherapy outcomes over the last three decades reveals that … the cell-killing paradigm has failed to achieve its objective … a model based on flawed premises with unattainable goal, cytotoxic chemotherapy in its present form will neither eradicate cancer nor alleviate suffering” (pg.89).

Dr. Ralph Moss, Ph.D., a highly respected advocate of non-conventional cancer treatment, said, “  If you shrink the tumour by 50% or more for 28 days you got the FDA’s definition of an active drug …. (but) when you see if there is any life prolongation from taking this treatment what you find is all kinds of hocus pocus … this is the great lie about chemotherapy.”

At CA Care we teach patients to live with their cancers. Concentrate on what matters. We don’t know how to cure your cancer and we don’t pretend we can cure your cancer either. But like in this case, we know how to make your life better – if you can eat, sleep,  walk, have no pains and can have a bit longer of meaningful life– what else do you want? Now, we say – Patients, you have a choice! Whatever you choose, is your prerogative. But it is you, and I emphasize –  you and you alone, who are responsible for that choice.

Lung-Brain Cancer: An Impossible Healing Part 2: A Week of Amazing Healing

Suri started the e-Therapy at our centre from Sunday 28 August 2011 – everyday (inclusive of the Raya Hari and Independence Day holidays.) The only thing I can say is, It is most rewarding to see how she benefited from what we do here. It is fun to joke with her and see her infectious smile! An inspiring experience indeed!

Happy Hour at CA Care

  • When she is not in pain, she is happy. She would tell stories and sing.
  • She is able to react to the environment and respond to our questions, etc.
  • Before the e-Therapy, she was feeling “cold” and could not take to the air-con in the room. After a few days, she was fine – no need thick clothings or a cap to cover her head.
  • Everyday her strength seemed to increase!
  • Each morning her husband shared with us Suri’s dream. One night she dreamt of eating a certain kind of fruit – she couldn’t remember the name. Suri made her sister name all the fruits. At last one name came up, “duku” and yes, that was the fruit that she ate! One night she dreamt of a person wanting to sell her a Mercedes Benz. She did not get to buy the car because her husband woke her up. Then the next night she dreamt of buying an expensive diamond ring.

The following is an interview with her husband on 5 September 2011 – after undergoing 8 cycles of the e-Therapy.

You came to see us on Sunday 28 August 2011. You had to pay over a thousand US dollars for each ticket. And there are three of you. That’s a lot of money. Why did you want to spend that kind of money when at ordinary time it cost only about US$150 to fly return?

Husband: This is because my wife is very important to me. She was in a lot of pain and I didn’t know what to do to help her.  So I have to fly in immediately to see you.

As I told you that night, I cannot guarantee good results but I would do my best to help her. But deep inside me, I felt that I could “win”.

H: Yes, we agreed that we would try.

On Sunday night (28 August 2011) we started the e-Therapy. This is Monday 5 September 2010. That means she had undergone 8 cycles of the therapy. Do you see any difference in her?

H: Wah, tremendous improvements. This morning is the best results I have seen. This morning she can shake her feet. This was what she used to do when she was healthy but since she had cancer she could not do that anymore.

So you really “see” improvements?

H: A lot of improvements. I  have not seen  such great improvements. You see, just now she could stand up by herself – something that she could not do before.

So are you satisfied with the results?

H: Extremely satisfied – very, very satisfied.

When you first came last Sunday, she had a few problems. What were these problems?

H: First, she had severe pains in her head. She is a person who can tolerate pain. And yet I could “see” that she was suffering due to this pain. It is so extraordinarily painful.

Is the pain less now?

H: No more pain – totally gone.

With regards to her movements – when you first came here, could she walk?

H: Wah, when we came last Saturday, we had to use the wheel chair. When we got to the door of the airplane, she switched to a narrowed wheel chair to  go through the aisle.

What happen now?

H: Now, she can walk!

So, are you certain that she has improved?

Yes, now she can take the herbs five times a day without any problem or protest.

What about her mental response? Can she respond to what you say to her?

H: Yes, if she sits quietly, she begins to remember many things.

Before this, can she respond to your questions?

H: Depends. Yesterday she was very, very angry with her sister. She was not allowed to eat “wan tan mee.” So she refused to talk to her and would not answer her. But during ordinary time, she can tell stories, sing and reply to our questions.

Is she aware and sensitive to her surrounding now?

H: Yes. (Note: the first few days at our centre she could not stand the cool air-conditioning of the room. She had to wear a sweater and a cap to cover her head. After a few days she did need these anymore).

Are you happy and satisfied having to go through all the trouble to come here?

H: Extremely satisfied. Let me honestly tell you this. When the Singapore oncologist “surrendered” and would not give her more chemo, I told all my children – “We shall go for herbs and hope that she would not suffer any pain. If she has to die, let her go in peace without any pain”. Pain is terrible. But after two months on your herbs, she started to recover – extraordinary healing indeed. It is a miracle (mujizat). It is Godsend. I did not expect this at all. I have suffered for two and a half years when she was undergoing her medical treatments. Come 9 September 2011 (4 days more!) she would have been on your herbs for four months.

Very good (sigh) I am real happy to be able to see her getting better every day.

H: I am extremely happy.
